What is an affiliate program?
An affiliate program is a type of sponsored advertising. In exchange for putting up a link on your website, you receive a commission based on the sales that you generate.
Why should I become a Resources Unlimited affiliate?
For several reasons. First, many of your visitors will find our products and services extremely beneficial. By helping them find Resources Unlimited, you're doing them a favor. Second, you'll earn a generous commission for doing so. Third, joining our affiliate program is quick, easy, and completely free.
Can anyone become a Resources Unlimited affiliate?
We encourage anyone to apply to our affiliate program, but we screen applications to ensure the best possible fit with our company. You will probably be a successful affiliate if your customer base is similar to ours. We look for affiliates whose websites involve training, education, facilitation, management, leadership, creativity, thinking skills, customer service, learning, conflict resolution, personality styles, or assessments.
How do I participate?
The first step is to apply to the affiliate program. When your application is approved, you will receive a username, password, and unique URL (which is coded with your affiliate number). Then, you simply create a link to Resources Unlimited, using your unique URL. This enables us to monitor the traffic that you drive to our website. Click here to apply.
And that's it. Quite simple, really.
To simplify things even more, we have created a number of links and placed them in the Affiliate Resource Center for you to use. You can simply copy and paste the HTML code.
Do I need to buy materials, stock inventory, or bill customers?
Absolutely not. Our goal is to make life as simple as possible for our affiliates, so we take care of all the back-end processes, such as order fulfillment and payment.
Once you join the affiliate program, you place a link on your website, then sit back and wait for the commission checks to roll in.
How do you track sales?
Every affiliate links to Resources Unlimited using a special, unique URL. This URL is coded with the affiliate number, so we can monitor the traffic you send us. Every time you refer a visitor who makes a purchase, we track the sale and give you the commission.
What if I send you a visitor who decides to purchase later?
You'll still get the commission. When one of your visitors clicks through to Resources Unlimited, we place a cookie on his or her computer. If that visitor leaves but later makes a purchase, we'll know that it's still your referral.
Can I keep track of my sales and commissions?
Sure. Our Affiliate Resource Center offers you a variety of useful reports. You can see your sales and commissions earned during the current cycle, as well as old commission payouts. You can also check out your traffic statistics, such as impressions, click-throughs, and sales. This is a great tool for comparing different links or link placement, so you can boost your earnings.
What does your affiliate program cost?
Absolutely nothing.
How will I be paid?
We can send your commissions via PayPal, or we can mail you a check.
How much will I be paid?
That depends on you! The more heavily you promote Resources Unlimited (for example, through prominent link placement or a blurb in your own marketing promotions), the more you will earn.
Our commission rates are 20% for product sales and 10% for event registrations (such as seminars).
How often will I be paid?
We close the commission cycle on the 15th of every month. If you receive your commission via PayPal, you can expect it shortly thereafter. If you receive your commission via check, the transit will take a few extra days.
Is there a minimum commission level for payouts?
No. In order to reduce administrative costs, some affiliate programs will not write commission checks under a certain amount (such as $50). This means that affiliates may be forced to wait several cycles while their commissions build up to the minimum payout level.
Resources Unlimited does not operate on this philosophy. We pay commissions every cycle, regardless of the amount.
Is your affiliate program one-tiered or two-tiered?
At the moment, our program is one-tiered. We are considering adding a second tier, and we'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
What's the difference?
A single-tier program operates exactly as we have described in this FAQ. Affiliates drive traffic to Resources Unlimited and receive a share of any sales that result.
A two-tiered program allows affiliates to refer other affiliates. Suppose you are an affiliate in a two-tier model, and suppose Paul visits your website. He clicks on your link, looks around, and decides that he wants to join the affiliate program, too. Now suppose a visitor to Paul's website clicks through and makes a purchase. In this case, both you and Paul would receive commissions. Typically, Paul would receive the larger commission (because he actually made the sale), while you would receive the smaller commission (for having referred Paul to the affiliate program), though this is not a hard-and-fast rule.
